We are pleased to announce the fifth annual NICA Awards to recognize and celebrate NICA’s outstanding student-athletes, dedicated coaches, and passionate volunteer community that support the high school mountain biking revolution. This year, NICA will be honoring 14 individuals in 11 different award categories. We proudly invite you to this stellar event to learn more about the impact NICA is having.
Benefit Ride
The festivities will begin with an optional guided mountain bike ride with Team Luna Chix Catherine Pendrel. Come to meet and ride with student athletes, coaches, volunteers, and NICA staff from across the country!
Meet 9:00 am at the China Camp State Park Miwok trailhead located East of the Kiosk and Camp Ground Entrance where a light breakfast will be served. Roll-out is 9:45 AM. The ride includes guided beginner-advanced route options led by local NICA coaches featuring flowing singletrack with some elevation and epic Bay Area views. Trailside BBQ lunch will follow the ride at 12 pm. Demo bikes available for out of town guests. To reserve a bike, please list your name, state you’re traveling from, and bike size on this google document.
Awards Banquet
The NICA Awards Banquet will be held at Clif Bar and Company, 1451 66th Street, Emeryville, CA, and will get underway at 5:00 pm. Enjoy fine food and beverages with the people leading the high school mountain biking revolution. The evening culminates with both a multi-media awards presentation and an inspiring presentation by Catherine Pendrel chronicling her incredible career.
Pendrel states, “I am super excited to be a part of the NICA Awards night. NICA is an amazing program I wish existed when I was a teenager…and in Canada! There is nothing that inspires me more than seeing young people having fun on bikes. Cycling has given me so much as a person. It has encouraged me to really challenge myself and discover my potential not only as an athlete, but as a mentor and for this i am ever grateful. I look forward to meeting the next generation of cyclists!”

Parking: There is parking on the street, and over at the Glaushaus Garage on the corner of 65th and Hollis Streets. Parking is not available in the Clif parking garage.
Air Transportation: The closest airport in Oakland is the Oakland Airport.
Lodging: We recommend The Claremont Resort in the Berkeley hills, or The DoubleTree by Hilton on the Berkeley Marina.
