Founded in 2009, the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA) develops high school mountain biking programs for student-athletes across the United States. NICA provides leadership, services and governance for regional leagues to produce quality mountain bike events, and supports every student-athlete in the development of strong body, strong mind and strong character through their efforts on the bike. With thirteen leagues operating in twelve states, NICA is serving over 4,000 student-athletes presently and interest in our programs is growing.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The primary area of responsibility is managing and developing NICA’s Coach License Program. This part time position will serve as the primary contact and manager for the 1,300 licensed coaches in the program. This person will be under the direction of the Programs Director and will be a key member of the program team, which includes 3 staff in addition to staff operating in finance, administration and development capacities. All told, NICA currently has ten employees working in the Berkeley office.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Coach Program:  Coordinate, expand, develop and update all educational tools used in the coach license program, including:

  • NICA Coach Manual (currently in its fifth edition);

  • Leader’s Summit materials including power point presentations and educational handouts; and

  • periodic online webinars.

Coach License tracking:  Using NICA’s registration system, track and communicate to participants all areas to maintain a coach license including:

  • Background check;

  • Field work;

  • First Aid requirements;

  • Concussion training;

  • Professional development units; and

  • Coach exams.

Coach Communication:  Coordinate, enhance and execute the following:

  • Coach Newsletter:  coordinate and publish quarterly communication with licensed coaches;

  • Coach Forum:  Develop and maintain a new national online coach forum;

  • Issue periodic e-mails communicating license status and risk management information;

  • Weekly “check-in” calls with coaches across the nation to create community, collaboration, and develop channels of feedback; and

  • Maintain the coach presence on the NICA’s website, including coach program, coach benefits, educational materials and more.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • 2 years experience as NICA licensed coach

  • College degree highly preferred

  • 2+ years experience related to job responsibilities

  • Knowledge and demonstrated aptitude of Microsoft Word, Excel, familiarity with Google Apps and MAC based products

  • Solid verbal and written communication skills

  • Editorial skills

  • Skill in planning, coordinating and carrying out multiple assignments in a timely manner

  • Ability to be very flexible and feel comfortable working within a very fast growing organization

  • Team player who can take-on new projects and assess when to request help

  • Must be self-motivated and possess a strong work ethic

  • Experience with mountain biking a plus

  • Knowledge of bike parts and race production equipment a plus

  • Proficiency and knowledge of bike publication, blogs and social media a plus
