NICA Expedition August 1-5

NICA leagues are built on the strong belief that while racing serves as a great motivator, it is not the ultimate end to our work. Among other things, the bicycle is a mode of transportation, a great benefit to health, a source of pure joy or simply a vehicle to explore the great outdoors.

This summer a select group of NICA staff and coaches will be hosting a NICA Expedition for 12 youth riders for a 5-day adventure around Lake Tahoe. Riders will be challenged with beautiful rides around Lake Tahoe, sticking primarily to the beautiful Tahoe Rim Trail.

Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better. ~Albert Einstein

Each day will begin with a breakfast cooked by the riders themselves. The day’s adventure will begin with a ride over some of the world’s most beautiful trails, with riders facing daily challenges ranging from snow-capped mountains to technical single-track.

As a member of the NICA Expedition, you’ll develop teamwork and leadership skills while working together to find your way across mountain passes, set up camp, cook your own meals over a camp stove and learn techniques to minimize your impact on the land. Evening activities will include orienteering games, guest speakers and team-based challenges under the stars and around the campfire.

More details about the route and travel will be available soon.

Any Rider, Any Speed

The NICA Expedition is open to all NICA student-athletes in 10th, 11th and 12th grade (2010-2011 school year) who have the desire to experience a mountain bike ride like never before. All rides will be at a social pace with no riders getting dropped. Rides may include a stop to enjoy a dip in the lake, a trailside lunch or any number of activities along the way.  The trip will be limited to 12 student-athletes.
